This is great library. One of the hidden gems of Racine. Well organized. Children's books are on the first level and adults are on the second. The views out the windows towards the lake are incredible! It is super clean. Easy to find. Plenty of parking. If you have young children or grandchildren (like us), the first level is the highlight of this library. There is an area where kids can play. All kinds of constructive, educational, and fun toys. There are even a few computers for them to play educational games on. Our granddaughter loves going to the library... Especially when they have reading time. I highly recommend going to the Racine Public Library.
This place is horrible to work at. They fire employees for having a disability, for missing work from being involuntarily committed, not offering accommodations, firing via email, not providing a termination letter, not receiving approval from the city for the termination, and overall just unprofessionalism by the “deputy director” who is now interim director. They do not care about those with mental health issues or disabilities and they discriminate against employees with them without reasonable accommodations. This library also would schedule part time employees over 45 hours a week without any full time benefits. It’s better to travel further to another library than visit an unethical one.
Very disappointed this place is surrounded with addicts and alcoholics begging for change. They really need to address this situation. Hire security for the outside not just the inside, Very sad to see this outside a place where we should feel safe with our children. * This is also the old Ymca but definitely smack INFRONT of the library.
This is disappointing they appointed nick demske as interim. Hopefully he doesn't get promoted to library director. He cannot get along with other employees, preaches diversity but fires employees with disabilities.
He posts bails for extremely dangerous criminals allowing them back into the community with access to fully automatic artillery. He puts on a face to the public but acts differently behind closed doors. I hope for the best for Racine and the library and that they chose a better person to fulfill the role of director.
It's just me but I guess I have always loved the library even when introduced to me way back in the 60's. Libraries don't throw cool little festivals for their neighbors in other towns I lived in.
A fun time even for this semi senior.
The library itself is fantastic, great resources. Nice facility and location. The staff is helpful and nice. Very impressive book selection as well as the ability to source books from surrounding libraries.
But I can't give 5 stars anymore bc I am harassed by the housing impaired whenever I am inside the facility and also outside. It's literally hard to get in without being cat-called or spare changed and it's actually quite scary around the back of the building where dozens of intoxicated people congregate regularly. Also trying to leave going up the steps is a gauntlet of harassment. While using the printers or computers inside men will blow kisses at me. It's gross ans demoralizing. I don't go very often because of this obstacle.
The library is fabulous! Very clean and spacious. The staff are wonderful!
Had been a few years since I went in, was nice and easy. Staff was very friendly as I did have a few ??, overall very satisfied. Check it out
